Barbershop centers around a big city barbershop, in Chicago, with a small city feel. The owner, Calvin Palmer (Ice Cube), struggles with keeping the business running. Calvin inherited the business from his father who used to pride himself on being a business for the people, not the money. However, in today’s society it is hard to run a business without the money. Forced to decide between his family legacy, the people, and the community, against making money in the business, he feels there is no other choice but to sell the barbershop to Lester Wallace (Keith David), the local goon. Now Calvin is forced with telling his crew of barbers that they will not have a job in the coming days. After finding out his true purpose in life from a conversation with Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), he sets out to save the shop and take back the deal from Wallace.
